Coming-of-age story. Boy turns seven, and is flown to Magic Castle by Harry Houdini to battle the evil magician and his young protégé. Learns the meaning of growing up and losing an imaginary friend.

Our host (surreptitiously played by Abb Dickson in disguise) introduces us outside the castle and describes what - and who - are allowed in it, followed by the opening title. Orson enters the building where strange things are happening, and Abb Dickson (in fez) explains about, and demonstrates, the Indian rope trick. He then turns the program over to Abb who introduces a variety of guests.

"Das Märchenschloss" is a children’s film based on a picture book by Fred Rodian. It tells the story of three brothers - Klaus, Günter, and Peter - who head out into the world to meet their dreams. While Klaus dreams of a combine harvester, Günther dreams of a tractor. Little Peter, however, yearns for something completely different: a fairytale castle.
